waiting on fall

Although my mouth speaks bravely of waiting until November for the cool... the rest of my whole self longs for that first chill in the air. That first breath of relief. But I do not grow impatient... I courageuously wait for November. Sometimes though... there comes an unexpected gift. A gift of a cooler breeze than I have felt in six months. A gift of crisp, clean air. It might not last the week... but I will enjoy it while it is here. The windows are finally open, circulating the real air... that God made, not my air conditioner. And the afternoon sky seems bluer... just a touch more vibrant... but I suppose, who would not be? Basking in the light coolness after lumbering under the heaviness of humidity. Taking full advantage of this gift... I found a place outside to enjoy the last few chapters of my book. I stirred up a pot of white chicken chili... to be shared by a fire with friends. I sat and enjoyed... and even slipped on a light jacket. When summer stretches from May until the last few days in October, I cannot help but receive Fall as a most welcome gift... and celebrate.
...and I am not the only one. These hands belong to the boy who, upon climbing from his bed asked Is it cold out? He was hoping it would be freezing last week. Not so he would feel cooler, but so that he could enjoy a steaming cup of cocoa.

I'm linking this up to Emily's Chatting at the Sky for Tuesday's Unwrapped... definitely a piece of the ordinary to celebrate!

the joy of hot cocoa is definitely one of the things that make the cold days bearable! :)

Oh, I know how he feels. Hot cocoa is just the thing to warm our fingers on a chilly day. It's about 48 degrees now so I think I'll fix me a cup!!!

YAY Fall! I really think that I am meant to live in a different climate at some point...not one with freezing winter blizzards, but one where the seasons are more apparent and the possibility of snow exists. Until then, I will relish these little breaks from the heat and humidity and try to make the most of them! Sounds like you are, too!

Ooooo Dawn, You can send your young fellow here! It's a beautiful Autumn now. Fire in the fireplace. Leaves golden and burnt orange. HOT COCO!! (We had a taste of Winter a week ago with snow and all!!) Still snow all around in the mountains.

Does Florida get frost??

Blessings, C.

We've been beyond open windows for quite some time, but I love that you are enjoying the cool breezes and basking in God's glorious outdoors. I'm enjoying a cup of hot cocoa right now, while the winds howl outside and the thermometer reads 46.

We don't get much fall in Southeast Texas, but when the temps drop below 70, I rejoice.

I love, love, love open windows. It kills me that winter is quickly approaching and the storm windows will have to be pulled down for months...but you reminded me of one of winter's small gifts: hot cocoa! And hot tea...and hot coffee! There's nothing like a warm mug to wrap your hands around on a blustery day!

I love this. "Is it cold out?" I can just imagine one of mine asking this.

The other day I told my husband that, when our guys are grown, they'll remember me as the one who made them hot chocolate. From scratch. With marshmallows. To go with homemade chocolate chip cookies. :)

Hope you're having a great week!

Love,
Richella

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I love that : ) You know what you could do one day. Maybe even in the summer. Turn the air WAY way down and get the house as cold as possible and then leave out scarves on the kitchen table and make everyone have a hot cocoa party with you! How fun would that be? : )
